Warlords
Warlords (sometimes abbreviated as wl) is a private Minecraft roleplay server. The server consists of a series of games that are hosted by individual players. Official members of the server are known as warlords, which is a status given apon a majority vote by all existing warlords. Games consists of one or more hosts, who are somewhat analagous to the role of a Game Master in a tabletop RPG, such as Dungeons & Dragons, albeit usually with much more freeform then a TTRPG. Meanwhile players could be roleplaying as a variety of things depending on the Genre, such as characters or countries or something else entirely.
History
Warlords 1
Warlords was started by player dylan34481 in October of 2018 after being unable to create his game Fuhrerreich due to plot size restrictions. It only had 6 initial players: dylan34481, clumsycapy (then known as thecoolkid26), SenorConejo, Tinted_Air (then known as EchoPlayz17), UltraCraftGames, and Bloxhead7. This server was known as Warlords 1, and it was online for a month until SenorConejo accidentally destroyed it on November 11th, 2018.
Warlords 2
Warlords 2 was created on November 19th, 2018, not long after Warlords 1 went down; it was also by dylan34481. It was the longest-running Warlords server, lasting 2 years and 6 months. Most games or game series had their start on this server, and the most players joined from this server than any other. Eventually, on May 24th, 2021, the server ran out of storage space, and had to be shut down. Attempts were made to remove empty chunks from the world map to clear up server space, and the server was briefly revived on July 15th, 2021, however it ran out of storage space again and was shut down only 5 days after. A backup of the world save and existing warps is available, however.
Minehut Warlords
Minehut Warlords (abbreviated as MHWL) was created as an interim server created by player FrenchFryFan, so that warlords members had somewhere to go while Warlords 2 was down. It was created on May 27, 2021 and exists on the Minehut server network (hence the name). A few games were copied from Warlords 2 to Minehut Warlords, and some new games were created there. There exists a plan to turn this server into a public Warlords server, however these plans are thusfar unimplemented. The server is still operational today but is seldom used.
Aternos Warlords
Aternos Warlords (abberivated as ATWL, sometimes called Warlords Reconstruction or WLR) was intended as a reconstruction of Warlords 2 in a new functional server, aswell as to bring activity to warlords once more after a long period of stagnation. It was created by player UltraCraftGames on February 16, 2022. It was created because a few players could not update past 1.16.5, and therefore couldn't play MHWL (which was on a later version), aswell as the discovery of a method to port old games to the new server, using a program called mcaselector. Most major games were ported from Warlords 2 to Aternos Warlords, and some games were manually ported from Minehut Warlords. The server is still operational today, however is likewise seldom used.
Warlords 3
Warlords 3 was launched on December 26th, 2022 as the next official Warlords server. It was created by player TheZipCreator and is the current iteration of Warlords. It is, so far, the only Warlords server to not use an external server host, instead being hosted on a Raspberry Pi 400 owned by TheZipCreator. It runs the Paper server software on version 1.20.4, and uses a custom plugin known as wlplugin that, in addition to Essentials, provides various utilities. The server is divided into 10000x10000 plots, with a maximum of 3 for each player. Many games were ported from MHWL, ATWL, and WL2, and every game that is currently being hosted is on Warlords 3.
