Disclaimer - I hope you read Part 1, or the History of RPs from the very beginning up until the formation of Warlords. Otherwise, this probably won't make sense. Okay, lets begin. It is late 9/2/19 as of me writing this. Warlords was finally made, a server where all the major RP makers can make games larger than the limits DF put on them, and uninterrupted from the increasingly shittier community that plagues the server to this day. This was, of course, great. No game that was made in DF would ever compete with the works of art Warlords would bring to the RP genre to this day. However, it did come at a price for the minor game-makers that stayed in DF, and did not go to Warlords. That is a problem. History of RPs - DF after Warlords There wasn't really much left in DF after all the good creators left in what I personally call the "Warlords Exodus", however, some of the game makers of Warlords did not immediately join. TheZipCreator, for example, would stay in DF to do non-RP things, but did do some progress. Games that weren't released or went nowhere for whatever reason were made, and have been abandoned. He'd eventually join after people asked for him to come back. For others, like Bloxhead7 and FrenchFryFan, they'd stay off of Warlords for long periods of time, mainly out of inactivity. Of course, there are others, but there wasn't really much to be said about what they did in DF after Warlords was made. So, what happened to the RP genre since then? To put it shortly - A slow death. Chapter 1 - Weak Immediately following the Warlords exodus, there is one thing to note - There were still major games that were on DF, that were not moved to Warlords. Two in specific. These 2 were: Kingdoms, Season 2 and Belloria, Season 1 Belloria would slowly die off after heated arguments and delayed turns put a game to a full, permanent, halt. Kingdoms, on the other hand, would last for much, much longer. There was still some activity going on from other games, what was left of the Late DF Loria Boom. One in particular would stand out to have a lot of popularity. This game was Civilizations, by SludsXD. It was a part of a sub-genre of developmental games, or 'Civilization' games, which I decided to name after this game, as it was the most influential by far. Many players who never joined Warlords yet enjoyed RPs became the key players to what became the Civilizations boom. So, what exactly was a civilization game? You see, there was a flaw with how RPs worked. RPs took an excessively long time to play. I don't think there were many RPs that actually saw a real ending, instead of just being cancelled or cleared. So, they took the idea of Kingdoms, and shortened it to under 10 turns, and simplified the systems of Kingdoms so that any average player could understand the game with some teaching and experience. This definitely dragged more people onto the genre, who in turn, made their own games, causing the boom. I personally saw this happen. It began shortly before Warlords and continued afterwards for some time. Lots of people had their complaints, and responded by either making their own games or just arguing in chat. One of their largest arguments was, "why don't you just code this?". This obviously was hard to code, and a full blown RP has never been coded. However, there has been a successful attempt. A game called "Empires" by skps2010, one of the players who played RPs during the Civilizations Boom, was created. The game shares some similarities with a Civilizations type game, and has since branched off into making its own systems. What is notable is that it is fully automated, which means it is not an RP, but rather the end result of the Civilizations Boom. Needless to say, people eventually got bored of the same type of game over and over. Not much innovation was made by those who made new games, and the other two categories (Lorias and Afterlife games) had basically died out. So, after people stopped playing, and people stopped making games, the Civilizations Boom, and subsequently, the last major phase of RP games of DiamondFire, died out. Empires would live on to be much longer, and to this day, it still exists. The death of the Civilizations Boom was not the death of DF RPs, but rather the main event that would lead to it. Chapter 2 - Final Breaths (Disclaimer - I spent much of my time in Warlords at this time. I was never informed of any major RP booms since Civilizations. So, this is from my view. I may be wrong.) RP games were clinging onto a thread. As far as I was concerned, only two real things were keeping the genre alive on the server. SenorConejo, and Kingdoms S2. Err0r77, and his various games. We already know about Kingdoms, so let me talk more about Err0r. He was a player who found out about RPs most likely during the Afterlife or Loria booms, and began making his own games. He, for whatever reason, kept on making games despite the same 3 people being his only active players. Similarly to how UK_Countryball made a bunch of unknown games, he'd go on to make a variety, from space games to nations that constantly nuked each other. His games were not too impressive, but they were one of the last signs of life in DF RPs. After his games eventually stopped being made for unknown reasons (He either lost his fanbase or went inactive himself) it only really left one significant impact. It was how CookieQ got into RPs. The defining characteristic of Err0r's RPs were just how bad they were. He'd make stuff on the spot and try his best to cater to his 3 player audience. Such a personalized experience drew his small fanbase together, and it primarily drew CookieQ to them. She would go on to make more RPs of her own, comparable in quality to that of Err0r's. None of these RPs left a significant impact. What is notable is that she would make some games that were never released on Warlords, meaning that she did have some direct impact on this server. But, that was not her largest achievement. CookieQ was also a fan of youtube videos called "AFOWs" (Alternate Future of the World) where countries talk to each other as if they were human, and go to war, and do alliances, or whatever. She'd go on to try to make that, but on DiamondFire, where she'd make a map of countries and play as every single one of them, as an audience watched. ... ... It failed. Several times. The main problem was that she was still producing Err0r quality games, with Err0r's quality. Barely preparing for a game before hand is a bad thing, and her preparing while people were waiting for the AFOW to start meant that it went nowhere. However, she did get a big audience. Had she made it better, I think the DF community would've entered an AFOW boom had CookieQ done better. But, she didn't, and her audience left before she even began. After that, only one major game truly remained. Kingdoms. Where it all began. A vote was held on discord to end Kingdoms S2, and it won by a solid majority. And, with that, ended DF RPs. Besides isolated efforts to revive the genre after, most recently another failed attempt at an AFOW by CookieQ and Pokeloria by Monty, Kingdoms S2 marks the end of the era of RPs in DF. It's pretty ironic, how RPs began in DF also became how it ended, giving Kingdoms another title - The last major RP. Or, well, is it? Chapter 3 - Conclusion So, this is the end of RPs in DiamondFire. Basically. Any attempt of a revival is going to be stifled by changes in the community. I honestly don't know how they'd like an RP game at all. Maybe they'd still enjoy AFOWs. Maybe they would enjoy Kingdoms. Who knows? But, currently, from what I've seen, and from the response to Pokelandia, there is not a big community for RPs left, but they still exist after all of this time. It says a lot about how much impact it has had. The work of several people, from Kcolyz and TheLoyalHorse to SenorConejo and I to Bloxhead7 to UK_Countryball and UltraCraftGames to countless others. We all made an impact. An impact that, as of 9/2/19, over a year of Warlords' founding, still lasts, however small it may be. Its safe to say that we, Warlords, should be proud of the legacy we left behind. And, of course, to all the other Warlords players I didn't mention, and to all of the players that chose to stay on DiamondFire who made an impact - Be proud. It's been a massive 2+ years since RP Wars, and here we are. I honestly don't know where I'd be had this not happened. I probably would've managed to get myself to quit MC altogether. I don't know about the rest of you reading this. This has been some nice few years, and I hope that it lasts for years to come. On that happy note, its safe to say the history of RPs in DF is done. May my two words go out to *everybody* who helped make this journey what it is: Be proud. Author's Note - I'd like to quickly dedicate these last few pages to SenorConejo. I think he's had one of the largest, if not, the absolute biggest impact on RPs to this day. From the creation of Kingdoms, he's been able to literally create what RPs are now. Nobody else made a follow up to RP Wars, at least a meaningful one. RP Wars 2 never was released, and Kcolyz would not try to make his own game until a year later, which also didn't get released. Kingdoms directly inspired me to make my two largest games - Afterlife and Belloria, while also inspiring people like Blox onto the genre. All of the major influencers of the RP genre directly stem from his work, and I think that we haven't truly appreciated that. So, that's what I got to say. Make sure you thank him, cuz hes the reason we're here. Thank you. Written by: thecoolkid26
