BLOXY RANTS #1 Game Seasons- WARNING: This book will be controversial and criticize many games. That does NOT MEAN I dislike the game. Just one very specific feature about it. Also this is MY OPINION. You can think what you want. So I think I should start this off by saying only one game I have is even considered seasons, and I have never made seasoned games. Most games, Kingdoms, CD, Galactica, Fortresses, all these are seasoned games. Echokia 2016, Bellumia, and other games based off of other games are not seasoned games, despite arguablly just covering it up with a different. Now Tactics is the only game I own that is considered to eventually be a seasoned game. I have mentioned many times that Tactics S1 is just a test, and S2 will be much more balanced. However, ironically, S1 seemed to be relatively balanced, and I ended up adding on more so than just scrapping the game and making a new season. It also moved very, very, very slowly. Now what would my problem be with these games that call themselves seasons? Where to begin... I consider there three types of seasoned games. Balancing seasons, continuation seasons, and revival seasons. Now I put those in order of "I think these types of seasoned games are good" to "these seasoned games anger me." Balancing Seasons- This is the name I use to refer to a game that creates a new season that is essentially to make a better version of their previous game. CD is the most glaring example. Every season fixes loads of problems with the previous, and at the time I'm making, I believe there have been 5 seasons, each one better than the last by fixing the most obvious errors needed fixing. Now I'm not a loyal player of CD, but ask a loyal player such as Ultra or Tck and you'll find that these changes were not withot controversy. UK was generally willing to face it to make a better and more enjoyable game for the players of CD. I consider these seasons 100% fine... in most examples. In cases where the game is so horribly broken where the players find it unfun, a new season is great. However, a game where such season is going fine, but there are just a few problems you need to fix, and you make a whole new season for it... the feels a bit... unnessacary, like such creator was just waiting for it to happen. Overall, I think CD is a victim of making a whole new season (S3) just to fix a few errors, but overall, most of UK's games end triumphently, and next season comes better than ever. Such is things like the Ice Wave in S2 or the Black Hole Nuke Spell (?Is that right?) in S4 of CD. Continuation Seasons- Now then, if you used process of elimination, you'd probably be like "Blox, why do you hate seasons that ended and just want a new season? That's how seasons SHOULD work," and I TOTALLY agree, and if creators did this properlly I would have no problem with Continuation seasons, the problem is how awful so much of these are delivered. Either the ending is just dumb *cough* Galactica *cough*, completely rushed, or tremendously unsatisfying. I dare say ever continuation season is, even if minor, victim to doing one of those. Now Kingdoms almost always ends as a continuation. The season ends, and a new season is made. It didn't end because it was unbalanced or because the game died. It ended because of a very disciplined ending. Now I've never been a player of a country during either of Kingdoms endings, which I do heavily regret, but I believe from many people the ending was either painfully rushed, or (I guess) unsatisfying. Now I stated in the beginning, I can guarantee people disagree with these statements, and you can. However, the point still stands. Warlords has been grasped by where the ending of seasons (if there is a definite ending) are bad. Now not all are bad, but if more were good, these types of seasons wouldn't be a problem for me, but I feel like they are. Now this should be the ending of seasons, unless a season is like Tactics or Kingdoms S1 where it was expected to be a "test season" to see the balance of the game. Sadly, so many awesome creators like Zip and Uk just butcher the endings of seasons, and this overall, for me atleast, puts a sour topping ontop of seasoned games. And it is a serious shame, buts it become regular I feel like a good seasoned game as one should be is glorified for just being... correct and not... bad. Now we get to the seasoned games where I see no need for. Revival Seasons- Now let me ask you, have you ever played a gamee that is now dead, and thought, "Man, I really wish that we could come back to playing this game." Let me tell you I have, and so many times these dead, or heavily delayed games, just get a new season. Now if a game is dead completely, don't but in the work of creating a new season! If a game is delayed heavily, then just restart it instead of trying to revive it by advertising your new season. Fortresses recently declared a new season, and that was the moment I figured I needed to make the book. Fortresses by Ultra is not the first game in any means to do this, but its just an example of I would have totally gone back to playing it. Every character was having their own fun storyline, and boom, new season. Why? Because Ultra felt like it? Yeah, that doesn't convince me. However, when someone tries to make a new season of game that is totally dead and has no right of coming back, then it's just... bad. Unneeded. Annoying in general. Not annoying, but, they come off as desperate. Now this is one of the few things in this server that I feel comfortable making a rant book on, because I believe, personally, I, Bloxhead7, haven't done this before. I stick to my guidelines... which of course are all debatable on how true they are. So that's my rant on seasoned games. I just want to say many of the games I used in here I did enjoy playing, and am mad at how they executed the seasoned aspects of their game. So if you agree with me... yay. If you are victim of doing one of these things, but think it's fine, well that's your opinion. I just think that the server as a whole needs to read this. So... goodbye. Have a good day.
